Middletown, NJ – The Northeast Generals NA3HL squad hit the road Friday afternoon for a weekend series against East Division Rival, the New Jersey Titans. Henry Wilson (Winchester, Mass.) scored his first as a General to gain the eventual 2-1 lead for the win.
A commanding lead in the East Division grows for the Generals with the win improving their record to 27-4-1-1 this season. The Titans meanwhile sit in the fourth and final playoff spot a record of 13-14-2-1. The two teams will close out the weekend series tomorrow at 3 p.m.
After a failed breakout and a turnover just outside of the Generals zone the Titans and Lucas Carney carried the puck up the left side wall and into the offensive end. Carney cut towards the net but elected to throw a puck towards the middle of the ice. Cutting towards the crease was Jacob Gray who caught the pass and chipped the puck over Ian Kangas (Virginia, Minn.) to give Jersey the 1-0 lead 7:36 into the contest.
Later in the first period with 1:29 left before the intermission Sean Gorman (New Hope, PA) scored his 8th of the season to tie the game at 1 a piece. Capitalizing on an offensive zone draw thanks to an icing Michael Locke (Wakefield, Mass.) won the puck back to his brother Owen Locke (Wakefield, Mass.). Owen took a shot from the point that couldn’t find its way through traffic, but Gorman was there to clean up the rebound and put it over the shoulder of Jake Agoglia.
It was all about the goalies for a large portion of the game. Specifical Agoglia who faced 52 total shots and kept the Titans in the close game. Agoglia wasn’t able to stop all of the Generals attack as Wilson beat the netminder 4:48 into the third. The Locke brothers worked together to get the puck into the offensive zone, and Michael sent it to the far side of the ice where Wilson was there with space for a one time shot. Agoglia got some of the shot, but not enough as it squeezed past him and into the net.
Kangas earned the win stopping 11 of 12 shots against and keeps his perfect record alive at 14-0-0 this season. On the other side if the ice with 50 saves on 52 shots Agoglia earned the loss despite the strong effort moving his record to 7-6-0.
