Generals secure Fraser Cup playoff spot with back-to-back road wins

The Generals clinched a playoff spot after their 4-2 road victory against the New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings on Wednesday, Jan. 17th, before a forfeit victory against the Norwich Sea Captains on Saturday, Jan. 20th. 

 

Wednesday’s game saw the Generals’ offense come to life early, with forwards Sean Gorman and Michael Locke scoring their 14th and seventh goals of the season only three-and-a-half and five-and-a-half minutes into the game. Ahead 2-0 after the first, Northeast continued to pile on the offense in the second, scoring their third and fourth unanswered goals 12 and 13 minutes into the second period to make it 4-0. Forward Gabe Vijuk and John Rodgers were the goal scorers, their 25th and 11th of the season. The Jr. Mountain Kings were able to respond late in the second to make it 4-1, before finding another late in the third, but the Generals fended off the home squad to walk away with the win, and clinch themselves a playoff spot. 

 

Goaltender Daniel Antal received the start in net, stopping 19 of 21 shots in his 16th win. Locke and Gorman led the team in points with a goal and assist for each, while eight different players recorded a point for the Generals. 

 

Game two started as a 0-0 game, before the Norwich Sea Captains pulled their players from the ice late in the second period, resulting in a forfeit 1-0 victory for the Generals. . 

 

The Generals will host their first and only home game in the month of January this week, with a home game against the New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings once more on Tuesday, Jan. 23rd at 12:30 PM EST. The team will then travel to New Jersey to take on the Jr. Titans in their final road series in the month of January, visiting Friday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 PM EST and Saturday, Jan 27 at 7:00 PM EST.
