Behind a great game by Alex Linquito, who had one goal and two assists, Skylands defeated Northeast, 7-3.
Linquito beat Steven Murphy with a shot 18:00 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Skylands. Kevin Perry assisted on the tally.
In a losing effort, Northeast was led by Conor Harrington, who registered two goals. Harrington scored the first of his two goals at 17:26 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Northeast. Perry picked up the assist. Harrington\’s next tally made the score 3-1 Northeast with 18:30 left in the second period. A cross checking penalty on Cory Decosta had put Northeast on the power play. Reed Mancovsky assisted on the tally.
Skylands kept Northeast\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Murphy made 40 saves on 47 shots. Skylands bested its season scoring average. Skylands has scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign. Skylands had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 11 chances. The defensemen of Skylands were also effective in Northeast\’s zone, and came away with three goals.
Skylands also got points from Matt Sinatra, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Hunter Ledwith, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Cole Skelly also scored for Skylands. Other players who recorded assists for Skylands were Dan Demarco, who had two and Jack Nussbaum and Mike King, who each chipped in one.
Northeast was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 54 penalty minutes.
Northeast also got a goal from Derric Trudeau as well. In addition, Northeast received assists from Chris McHugh, Travis Hyde, Luke Whalen, and Tim Rheault, who contributed one each.
Mathias Yttereng recorded 19 saves for Skylands. Skylands incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Northeast registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Northeast, Austin Braley was ejected from the game.
